Reduce your Carbon Footprint Through Purchase
of Electricity from Renewable Energy Sources
Beginning April 20, 2018 the City of Petoskey will be offering to our customers a voluntary green pricing program. Residential and commercial electric customers will have the option of purchasing electricity generated from renewable energy sources. In the coming weeks, electric utility customers can voluntarily earmark 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% of their electric usage to come from renewable energy. At this time, it is anticipated that renewable energy costs through the VGP program will be an additional $0.01 per kilowatt hour (kWh). Based on an average electric usage of 800-1,000 kWh, a residential home using 100% renewable energy will see their electric bill increase by an estimated $8.00-$10.00 per month. In early April, the City will have a link on the City website under Departments-Public Works-Electric for a program sign-up sheet. Stay tuned for more information.
