Meeting in regular session, Monday, July 17, 2017 City Council:

  • Heard a presentation by Michigan Public Power Agency concerning power supply and renewables;
  • Heard a proclamation by Mayor Murphy declaring July 21, 2017 "Young Ernest Hemingway Day";
  • Appointed Ken Winter, 250 Water Street, for a four-year term ending January 2021 filling a vacated term by Christine Gebhard due to her resignation from the Board;
  • Conducted a second reading of a revised proposed ordinance that would amend Appendix A of the Code of Ordinances, Zoning Ordinance Article II, Article VI, Article VII, Article XVI, Article XVII, Article XXIX and Article XXX;
  • Heard an update on MERS retirement plan;
  • Adopted a resolution opposing Senate Bill 329 and House Bill 4503 including proposed amendments to the Zoning Enabling Act that would eliminate the ability of local government to regulate the short-term rental of residential properties; and
  • Approved Jason Hayes from the Mackinaw Center for Public Policy to speak at a future Council meeting concerning renewables.
