At Tuesday's General Election, City voters elected John Murphy, 911 Lockwood Avenue, as Mayor; elected Izzy Lyman, 1117 Jennings Avenue, to represent the Second Ward; and re-elected City Councilmember Jeremy Wills, 204 State Street, to represent the Fourth Ward.  Mayor-elect Murphy and City Councilmembers-elect Lyman and Wills will receive their oaths of office at the City Council's first meeting in January.

 

Draft Emmet Neighborhood Plan Complete

A draft of the Emmet Neighborhood Plan is complete and will be reviewed at a neighborhood meeting on Saturday, November 9 from 4-6 p.m. at Harbor Hall, 704 Emmet Street. The plan provides goals and strategies for neighborhood improvement drafted from stakeholder input and can be viewed here. Plan implementation will rely on the active participation of stakeholders to change the neighborhood from one to simply pass through, to an area worth caring about.

 

The Quarry Trail project connecting East Park to downtown Bay Harbor is nearing completion.  Constructed in partnership with Bay Harbor Company, the trail project aims to provide convenient access between the Little Traverse Wheelway and downtown Bay Harbor.

Meeting in regular session, Tuesday, January 19, 2016, the Downtown Development Authority Board and Downtown Management Board conducted annual organizational meetings and elected Larry Rochon as Chairperson and Reg Smith as Vice Chairperson, and scheduled regular meetings for 2016.

Meeting in regular session, Monday, October 21, 2013, City Council:

  • Held a public hearing to receive comments concerning programs and services as proposed by the City's Downtown Management Board for 2014 and adopted a resolution that approved programs and services, established an assessment district, and directed that an assessment roll be prepared for subsequent review;
  • Adopted a resolution vacating Lowrie Avenue and portions of Grove Street as requested by Emmet County Equalization and McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital; and
  • Adopted a resolution appointing Robert Englebrecht as the City Assessor.

Meeting in special session, Thursday, September 12, 2013, City Council, Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals met to hear board updates and discuss policy issues that may need to be addressed in the near future.

Meeting in regular session, Monday,January 13, 2014, the Parks and Recreation Commission:

  • Held its annual organization meeting and elected Roy Pulaski as Chairperson and Amy McMullen as Vice Chairperson;
  • Heard updates on projects and winter recreational programs; and
  • Heard Winter Carnival updates and that the event date is February 15.
