Police, fire, and emergency-medical services are provided through a unified Department of Public Safety, whose sworn personnel maintain State certifications in all three disciplines. In 2017, approximately 8,082 requests for service resulted in 123 felony arrests and 335 misdemeanor arrests; about 1,763 calls were handled as general assistance to the public; 448 complaints involved health, safety, and property-maintenance matters; and 454 requests for fire or emergency medical assistance were answered. The Department operates seven pieces of fire equipment, eight patrol vehicles, and two boats. The City enjoys a "Class 4" community fire-insurance rating.
